Layla Grace

Precious Layla's fight against Neuroblastoma.

Transplant is OVER!!

November25

Layla’s stem cells were infused at 10am this morning and the entire process was finished at 10:20. She did FABULOUS with absolutely no complications! She will stay hooked up to all the monitors for 6 hours just in case there are some residual blood pressure or respiratory issues, but so far she’s fine!

Transplant Taking Place

I think we finally got her narcotics sorted out and she is sleeping pain-free. Her mouth and throat look terrible and every time she tries to drink she cries because it hurts to swallow. She has been switching between vomiting blood and dry heaving. The vomiting of blood is normal and expected. The skin in her mouth and throat is sloughing off and each time she vomits it tears off another layer, thus causing it to bleed.

The best thing for her is just to sleep, then she’s not in pain and she’s not nauseous. The next two weeks are very critical because she needs to stay as well as possible. She has no immune system and can get infections very easily. She is taking 5 different medications to prevent infection, but her body is so weak and fragile that infection is almost inevitable.

Praise GOD for an anti-climactic transplant and please pray that the stem cells go and do their job quickly so her immune system starts to rebuild itself.

One BIG step closer to cancer free!!!!

just wanted to let you know that I’ve been following your story and praying for you all. I live in the same area as you and i have an 8 year old son who underwent chemo and a successful stem cell transplant last year. I’ve watched with sadness the details of sweet L’s transplant remembering my sons…I went back and looked at the details and it looks like at day +11 we still had the sores, but by day +15 we were on the mend. And we were home that next week! So I hope that helps! I know how hard it is and I hope you have some help so that you can at least step outside for a change of scenery…

Thinking and praying for you all!

i really clung to this through our storm — hope you can too!
It’s from a Beth Moore study …I really loved the message!
…”Because God’s ways are higher than our ways, we cannot always comprehend what He is doing or why He makes certain decisions. When we sift His apparent activity through the standard of who He is, we will invariably find relief and healing. Basing our faith on WHO God is rather than what He appears to be doing is crucial to our spiritual health!”.

Hi There… I first came across your sweet little girl on a friends facebook page. I wanted to tell you that I have a two and a half year old little boy who is battiling stage 4 neuroblastoma at childrens medical center in Dallas, TX. He is just a few days behind your little girl in the transplant process, as he got his stem cells injected on December 1st. So I can honestly say that my husband and I know what you guys are going through!

We found out Gabrial had cancer when we were 6 months pregnant with our second child, SethRyan, so I have to split my heart between my two boys everyday, as they will not allow the new baby up at the hospital with Gabrial. Ryan ( Gabrials father and my husband ) spends every waking moment up at the hospital with Gabrial. You can read about him here… http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/gabrialmichaellatham

Please let me know if there is anything I can do!!
