Missing Layla & Exciting News

April11

Wow, has it really been this long since I’ve blogged? The past month has been a blur. A crazy mix of emotions. I feel like I’ve found my way out of this thick fog I was stumbling around in, and now I can see clearly. I am finally able to process what went on the past year and it hurts like hell. I miss Layla more with each passing day. It is so difficult to look at her pictures without tearing up or talk about her without crying.

Jenna and Claire seem to be doing better. Jenna cries less and is more willing to talk about how she feels, and Claire is beginning to understand that Layla is never coming back home. It is tough to answer the same questions everyday – “Where is Layla? When are we getting her from the hospital? Why is she in heaven?” These are daily questions from Claire.

We’re still just taking it day by day. We went to church today for the first time since Layla passed. That was pretty difficult. We’ve wanted to go every Sunday, but when Sunday morning came around, we just couldn’t go through the motions to actually get to church. I realized a few days ago that it was time for us to start going again and soak up as much of God’s word as we could. And let me tell you, I’m so glad we went! I left feeling refreshed and better than I have in days!

I understand that it’s really hard for some people to approach us. More often than not, I can tell that someone wants to talk to me but they don’t know what to do or say, so they just cry, then apologize for crying, then apologize for not knowing what to say. That’s okay! If I see you out in the community, I welcome smiles, hugs, tears, words of sympathy – whatever you feel like sharing. It warms my heart to know that so many people are still thinking about our sweet Layla and still praying for us.

Now for the exciting news….

I am SO THRILLED to finally share with everyone what I’ve been working on for the past month. When Layla passed, it became my mission to live out her legacy and do everything in my power to make sure other children don’t suffer the way she did. I’m proud to announce the birth of the Layla Grace Children’s Cancer Research Foundation! I have met with attorneys and accountants and signed papers, they have filed those papers and I will have my tax id# this week. I am SO excited to see what this new chapter of our life will bring! The Layla Grace Foundation’s primary goal is to raise funding for Neuroblastoma research, and we are also tossing around some ideas about how to directly help children going through treatment. Parking passes, meals, gifts, childcare for siblings, and of course – flower beanies!

Our first large event in Houston is being planned right now, and in about a week I’ll be in need of some volunteers who would like to help. Guys, this is going to be BIG and I’m going to need several volunteers. Also, planning for our second large event will start at the end of this month and I’ll need volunteers for that as well. At one point, I couldn’t keep up with all the people who wanted to help. I pray the Layla Grace Foundation will be blessed with an abundance of volunteers!!

I am happy that you went back to church. We all know that GOD is the source of our strength. As for me, I was off church for many months because of some problems but eventually I went back because I know I needed Him more than anything else.

It also good to know Jenna is coping up. Someday, Claire will realize it too.

As for the foundation, I am happy with the news. I pray it will be an instrument of God’s blessings to help those who are in need.

Anyway, I just want you to know that you are an admirable woman. Strong and brave in God. :)

I am so thrilled to see your blog. I was just thinking in the car on the way home from getting ice cream with my husband and daughter that it’s been just over a month since Layla’s passing. I still think of her daily and because of her, I pray with my 7 month old everynight for Him to place His healing hands on each child effected with a fatal disease.

A girlfriend and I came out yesterday to the Hugs for Layla event and we were disappointed that we just missed you. I would have loved to meet you and with that, I would LOVE to help in any way I can. I live in Katy so I am fairly local. Once you have more details on either/both events please post so I can know what to do.

He is still watching over you and your family Shanna. He always will and she will ALWAYS be smiling down on you, Ryan, Jenna and Claire. Keep your chin up and smile back. You’re doing great.

    So much love and prayer,

I am from Iceland, my sister lost her son 2yrs old 3yrs ago. He had stage 4 neuroblastoma and had relaps like Layla. Through my sister I know what you are going through – it will get better. They had older son so it was never an option to just give up. She says it still hurst as much but she just has learned to live with the pain. I prey everyday for all those beautiful little children fighting this desease. Good luck with the fundation, those children need better medicine which is made for children not adults. They do need cure and I am sure the cure will be found one day. Just hope sooner than later.

Layla was such a beautiful girl, I am so sorry for your loss.

I live in California & if ever your foundation reaches this far, I would be HONORED to help in any way that you need me to. Please email me if you ever have the want or need. I am saddened every time I read of another story of another innocent child stricken with cancer, when I see the word Neuroblastoma, I just cry & think of precious sweet Layla. I will support your family & Layla’s foundation in any way that I can. I think of her every day & pray for your family & the foundation often. Lots of love & prayers, Alicia

I think it is wonderful that you are able to carry on Layla’s memory in such a manner that will impact many more lives. I heard about Layla’s story from a mutual friend, A. Blevins Swiney. I consider myself blessed to have been touched by your daughter. I was able to see how compassionate and loving my own daughters can be, even toward a complete stranger. They checked the blog at least 15 times a day and still check daily for updates. We live in the area and I was able to bring them to Layla’s celebration. It was beautiful!
We would be honored to volunteer at any event where we might be needed!!
    Many hugs to you!!

    Hello-

I do not know how exactly I came across your blog, but I did and have been touched by your blog in many ways.

First, I hope you don’t mind a complete stranger reading your blog, and I do send my greatest sympathies one can send.

Second, I would like to donate flower beannies to the Layla Grace Foundation. I would also like to donate my time if possible (I reside in WI and I am not sure where you are located?) I do not know how to donate the hats and would love more information.

I can’t imagine how difficult this whole journey was, especially now. I’m still praying for your family, and I will always remember Layla. It’s okay to cry looking at pictures of her and talking about her. Your baby will always be with you.

I am SO excited about the Layla Grace Foundation! I wish I could help, but I’m in Ohio. Do you know when the first event will take place? I will be in San Antonio at the end of the month.

Thank you for continuing your blogs. Even though Layla is gone, your family is still on everyones minds.

That is EXCITING news!!! What a great oppurtunity to minister to others by actually helping the kids and their families directly. My mom passed from cancer in 2006 and she had no outside help from any organization for things like food, shelter costs and other basic essentials. She was unable to work and moved 1900 miles to live with my husband and I and our kids. Then she was taken care of. Helping families directly would be such a huge blessing! God bless you and your plans today and forever!

Your family has touched my life so deeply. My youngest baby is also Layla and I just look at her and I think of your Layla and all your family has been through! I have shed so many tears for your sweet Layla. You are sooo incredibly strong and AMAZING!! The impact that Layla and your family have had on soooo many people is just mind blowing. It’s truly beautiful. I wish I lived close to get involved in your foundation. I think your enthusiasm alone will make it a HUGE success!! It’s so nice that your turned your pain into such an incredibly postive cause!! Best of luck with it! Can’t wait to follow the progress!!

Always thinking of your angel Layla.

To me Layla stands for Little Angel You Love Always!

I have been following Layla’s story since the beginning of March from a well wishing post of a friend on Facebook. Although I have not been aware of her for long, I can not keep her or her family out of my daily thoughts. I feel as if she is part of my family and look forward to hearing of the great strides her legacy will make! I would love to volunteer to help out in anyway I can but sadly, I live in Ohio. I hope that one day the organization spreads so large that I have the opportunity to do so. I spread the word of Layla daily and hope that one more person can be saved from this horrible disease. Much love from Ohio!

Wish I could help but I am way up in Mass. Layla had truely touched an entire nation. You and your family are an inspiration!

  77. On April 11th, 2010 at 8:03 pm Amanda Says:

Thank you for the update. I’ve been wondering how you & Ryan & the girls are doing. I’m so thankful that God has given your family the grace you need to get through this tough trial. I’m also thankful that it has drawn you closer to Him and not further away. A lot of people would blame God and get upset with Him, instead of doing what your doing and seeing it as God’s plan. I was so touched by your sweet Layla’s story. I have 4 children of my own one of them being a little girl just a few months older than Layla, and her story and your testimonies brought me closer to them, especially Savannah(2). It haa forever changed me as a mommy. It’s so good to hear your sucess with Layla’s Foundation, I live in Ohio, unless there is some way to help long distance, the only thing I can offer is prayers for the Foundation. I continue to pray for you and your family. I pray God does great things with Layla’s foundation. She was so precious and I never even knew her personally. May God continue to bless & your in my prayers.
    -Amanda (Ohio)
P.S. Just curious, have you told Ryan Cecrest or Paris Hilton about the Foundation? Also, have you found out when Jenna’s on T.V. With her interview?

That is exciting news!! What a wonderful way for you and your family to honor your precious Layla.

It is so hard to see your children go through the loss as well. They just can’t grasp everything, because they can’t possibly understand every detail. I will never forget the faces of my boys when I had to tell them that their little brother went to be with Jesus. It was one of the most heart breaking moments in my life.

My heart goes out to you and your family. God bless.

A verse that comes to mind…”For I know well the plans I have in mind for you says the Lord, plans for your welfare not for woe! Plans to give you a future of hope. When you call Me, when you go to pray to Me, I will listen to you. When you look for Me, you will find Me.” ~Jeremia Ch29.

As a former hospice nurse – turned photographer – my heart has been touched so deeply by Layla Grace! I have also been following the blogs of Kate McRae (www.prayforkate.com) and Cora McClenahan (www.themcclenahans.com), both sweet girls who have also fought bravely against neuroblastoma, and I am in the process of organizing some “portrait party” type fundraisers for the proceeds to benefit neuroblastoma research…and now can go towards beautiful Layla’s foundation!!!!!!!

Thinking of you, your family, and beautiful Layla every day! Praying for peace beyond understanding!!!

I’ve been following your story from Ireland and I just have to tell you that I think you are all wonderful people. To have such poise and grace when your world is being changed forever is so admirable, I don’t have the words. I am so sorry for what happened, Layla was the most beautiful little girl with the loveliest smile I’ve ever seen. You can see the love in all of your pictures, and they are a joy to behold. How lucky you were to be a Mum to such a gorgeous angel. She, and all of you, have had a massive impact on my life. I am a mother of young boys and you have inspired me to be a better Mum, and a better person. I have no doubt that Layla’s foundation will go from strength to strength, you have the most amazing courage and strength and with that, you can move mountains. You are all in my prayers daily. I will never forget your beautiful little girl and the impact she has had on me – I’m just sorry I’m so far away and can’t help out.

Thank you for sharing all you have with us – and for allowing us in to your lives for our own benefit. You have no idea of the impact you’ve had on people on the other side of the world. xx

    Dear Marsh family!

Please let me know what can be done outside the US? It is a global issue, but the core activity seems to be in your state -which is great too – but what can we do in Europe about this besides donations?? Will you have a separate website for the Foundation that could be translated to other languages?

I work for a child development center in Hungary. Yes, Layla’s little hands reached out that far.:)

We miss your daughter every day too. It is not getting better at all yet, and we are complete strangers to your family. Someone wrote: it will get worse before it gets better, so we are waiting for that to happen. You did everything for her, and she gave us so much more in return! I am so so grateful, and I know this is what I should be, not sad or angry.

I pray that your family continues to gain strength each day. I think what you doing for other children in need is awesome and I want to help in any way that i can! Shanna – there honestly isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of you, your family and Layla. Many times I find myself talking about her to my husband or my daughter or just silently thinking of all of you.

Just like so many – I wish I lived closer so I could volunteer. What an AWESOME foundation you are putting together and I think we would all be simply honored to be a part of it. I have no doubt you will have an abundance of volunteers – you are all gracefully getting through something that most of us will never expierence and it’s so uplifting and life changing to follow your story – I just wish I could do more than just follow a story =(

Always thinking of you from up here in Seattle.

Remembering Layla after a month she went to heaven.

Today I read a devotional which made me thing so much of you and your family and thought I would share it with you…

On the night before He was crucified, Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. The thought of what would take place in the next 24 hours caused Jesus to be deeply troubled; “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death” (Mark 14:34).

Being fully God, Jesus knew exactly what was about to take place and exactly why it had to occur. But being fully Man, the foreknowledge of the rejection, physical pain, and spiritual separation from the Father was nearly unbearable.

    Mark 14:36
“‘Abba, Father,’ He said, ‘everything is possible for You. Take this cup from Me. Yet not what I will, but what You will.’”

Jesus cried out and asked for the plan to be changed; and yet, His greater desire was for the Father’s will to be done. Earlier in His ministry, Jesus taught us this same principle; “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven’” (Matthew 6:9-10). Even with an absolute understanding of what He must endure, Jesus’ sole desire was to glorify the Father by walking the path placed before Him; “I have brought You glory on earth by completing the work You gave Me to do” (John 17:4).

This is the example we ought to follow all through our life; we should present ourselves to the Father, fully prepared to serve, and be completely emptied of our own desires. When we have allowed Him to be the only possessor of our heart, He will fill us with His Spirit and accomplish His perfect will through our life. When our life is ordered and directed only by His will, we will receive blessings from above which bring far greater joy than the fulfillment of ANY flesh-directed desire.

This is one of the mysterious “secrets” of the Christian walk. We were created to be in fellowship with God – to glorify Him and enjoy His presence for all eternity. We may spend a lifetime chasing what we believe will bring us a sense of fulfillment, but we will never be truly content until we rest in His arms and submit to His ways.

What cup have we been given to drink? What seemingly unbearable burden have we been given to carry? Have we been asking, even demanding, that the burdens be taken from us, or are we yielding to the Father’s will and being determined to glorify Him in all we do? Let’s come to His table ready and willing to serve; but let’s also come with complete submission to His perfect plan. Only in this can we fulfill the purpose for which we were created. Heavenly Father, we give our life fully into Your hands; let it unfold, not by our plans, goals or desires, but according to Your will.

Have a Christ Centered Day every day and know that He has great plans for your family and you and that Layla came to do His will. He is very proud of her as we all are.

    Sincerely

    Claudia

I am one of those people who just don’t know what to say and I have just sat quietly and followed your story for a while now. Layla has changed my life in a way I could never explain in words. I have cried so much but felt selfish for doing so, my tears could never compare to the pain you have felt and continue to feel.

My mother is currently undergoing cancer treatment and the more I hear about people that are suffereing or have suffered with Cancer, makes me more determined to do something about it.

I am currently studying to be a medical assistant and want to continue my education as an RN. Having said this, I personally have made it my mission to help those with Cancer. It was Layla and my mother who made this decision a lot easier. Please continue to keep us updated about the foundation and I will do what I can to raise awareness over here in California.

My thoughts and prayers are always with you. I don’t say this lightly, I truly think of you all on a daily basis and hope each day gets a little easier.

    Shanna –

I am the mother of twins who are about six months younger than Layla was, and though I’m not a crier (I don’t often cry at sad movies, etc.), Layla’s story touched me in a way that I’m not sure anything else ever has. As a still relatively new mother, I’m able to relate to your feelings about your daughter in a way that I wouldn’t have been able to before. Seeing that your little Layla looked so much like one of my twins (her name is Brianna) brought this story even closer to my heart – I’ve looked at every picture, read every entry of your blog (I know you’ve heard this a thousand times), and I generally cry like a baby whenever I read something new you’ve written, as I did just now, or whenever I think of you all. It’s so hard for me to understand why someone so sweet and so innocent should have to endure so much pain, only to then lose her battle, and of course I am awed by the strength of your faith and your convictions. I’m happy for you that you have your faith, as I know it must make things a little easier – but my heart also breaks for you every single day.

One thing I can say for sure is that though I’ve never been as much of a “glass is half full” person as I’d have liked to be, you have made me see things in perspective. Having twins hasn’t been easy, but on those nights when they’ve got me up every hour b/c they’re teething and I have to teach the next day, I just thank God for the opportunity to go into my room and hold them in my arms, b/c I know you’d give anything to be able to do that – I’m appreciating every moment I am able to share with them, and I am so grateful that they’ve been so healthy.

Another reason I wanted to write (I’ve visited your site every single day for so long now) is this – I know that you are still in the fledgling stages of Layla’s Foundation, and I’m so excited to hear that you’re getting things started. I am certain that you will find plenty of willing volunteers, and when you are able to let people know where they can donate to your foundation, I know that they (we) will. More than that, though, I wanted to give you some additional food for thought in case this is something you’ve ever thought about. I live near a children’s hospital called the Children’s Hospital for the King’s Daughters, and the hospital has numerous “circles” of women (mostly women, anyway) who raise money for the hospital and do things for the children there.

I wondered if you’d ever thought of sponsoring (not even sure this is the right word) similar “circles” or chapters or whatever you want to call it – to support Layla’s Foundation? I think it’s clear that there are people everywhere who would jump at the chance to be involved – if you had willing “coordinators” in various areas, there are lots of ways that I think we could begin to figure out ways to locally support your organization. If you had help, or the time yourself, such people could probably participate in conference calls or online chats of some sort to figure out how to get started, and I imagine that there are even people (myself included) who would be willing to come to meet with you to lay the groundwork for ways we could begin local “chapters” or circles of some sort.

I am a high school teacher and, I like to think, a fairly intelligent and capable woman :) , and I mean every word of what I am saying – I have always wanted to volunteer for a worthy cause, and I think that I’ve found one into which I’d be willing to throw my heart and soul. Think of how much money you could raise for Layla’s foundation if you had subgroups of her foundation operating in numerous cities throughout the country!

If this were ever something in which you’d be interested, you should certainly feel free to contact me using the email address I listed here, or you could just say so in any new blog entry you write in the future, as I will be certain to see it. Just let me/ us know where to contact you if there are those of us who are seriously interested in getting involved in a big way – in my position as a high school teacher alone, I am certain that I could rally much support from my students and fellow teachers if I had the permission to tell them about your sweet girl.

Much love, and know that so many of us think of you day and night, and throw a kiss to Layla in heaven whenever she crosses my mind – what an angel she must be.

    Love always,
    Jessica S.

no one can put into words how we really feel about layla and what you have been through….there are none. But what i can say is i only read about little layla a few weeks before she went to be with god. Her story touched my heart so profoundly … it has been a while since and every night i still light my candle at 8 pm for her and pray that this will not happen to another family. I pray that God will make a way for you to help other parents push through this and help to ease the burdens they have…. I so wish i could have held your hand and comforted you all going through this. Layla willl NEVER be forgotten. I think of her daily (i only know her story and her picture). WHAT a blessing that she had YOU for her parents. That is a real story of love. Bless you all and know that little Layla will never be forgotten.

Layla Grace touched my heart in a way that forever changed my life and how I live it. I started following your story right after Valentine’s day and haven’t stopped. I have learned to work less hours in the evenings, the house is okay a mess as long as we are having fun together, and cherish every moment you have with loved ones especially my little ones. I feel honored to tell Layla’s story to others and hope to spread the word. I met a woman the other day and she shared her story with me, her daughter (now in her 40’s) was one of the first diagnosed and survivors of neuroblastoma. I wish we lived closer to help out with Layla’s foundation. The best of luck and you guys are always in our prayers.

With a great sadness I’m coming here to tell you that my best friend, my maid of honor, passed away this morning. She was only 26… And I am so hurt and I can’t find nothing to hold on to, I can’t even go to the funeral cause there is that stupid ocean between us. Life is not fair and it has no meaning in days like this. I’m hoping she will have a chance to meet Layla and they will know how much they both touched my life. I am almost alone here in US, and have no one to share my sorrow with. It hurts so bad, so bad. I love you very much Danijela, with all my heart. Maja

I was turned on to your website from my friend who lives near you. I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. No one should ever have to endure the pain of losing a child and my heart hurts for you and your family. I work and volunteeer at a grief support group here in Salt Lake called The Sharing Place and I think their website might be a good one to check out for some references on dealing with your unimaginable grief. One book that I particulary like and that has been helpful in explaining a loss to children is When Dinosaurs Die by Laurie and Mark Brown. It helps put a death into terms they can understand.

Again, I am so sorry for your loss of Layla but I am truly inspired about the attitude you portray and your desire to turn this tragedy into something good. Please let me know if you have any questions about The Sharing Place or need some materials on children’s grief.

I do not live in Texas, but oh so wish I was there to help you and your family in any way possible. I have followed Precious Layla’s courageous journey from the beginning and learning her fight had been lost, broke my heart to pieces. My 10 year old daughter, Makayla, saw me crying after I learned the news. I explained why and what had happened and together we sat and read through your blogs and looked at pictures. Our little way of celebrating Layla’s amazing life.

I am in Chicago, IL but would so love and be honored to help out the organization in any way I possible can. Please, if you think of anything I can do from a far for you and or the Layla Grace Children’s Cancer Research Foundation, do not hesitate to tell me about it. Anything I can do to help so that another child and family does not have to endure what Layla and your family did, would be an absolute Honor <3

    RIP Precious Layla

I live here in Dallas and was first turned onto your site from a local radio station kiss fm. I’m a 31 year old father of a 6 year old son and a 13 month old daughter. I have to say that when I first started reading your post that it was so heartbreaking to me And I cried like I never have before for people that I have never met and a beautifulll strong little girl that I wish I would have had the privelage of meeting. as a parent you can’t help but to ask yourself that one question. What if that was my child. As I’ve read feedback and the support your family has received I realize that there is still good in this world amongst all the evil that goes on. As for your little angel that I believe was put on this earth for a reason served her purpose and she did more in her lifetime that 100 people could have done. All to often we get caught up in the fast lane and we never slow down to enjoy life and the people in it. Because of your story it has changed the way I treat people and especially the time I spend with my family. As I just found out your loss my son laying in bed with me asked me why I was cryng and I told him it’s hard to explain but I found out that a angel had Been called up to heaven and someday he would understand what I was talking about. Your little angel with the courage of 100 men is sitting right now up in heaven next to our lord above holding his hand and having no fear and no pain looking down on her wonderfully brave family and inspiring family sending you thoughts and comfort in your sleep that she is okay and she is being looked after well. I’m sure you allready know that god takes good care of his children especially the angels that he sends down to us and often takes to soon. I fell I’m far from the relationship I should have with god. But you’ll have inspired me to make it better. I have never met your family and probably never will but just by your pictures and story I can tell you’ll are a loving family and although you were sent your angel for just a short time you will always carry her with you’ll forever and she will always be watching over you. My thoughts are with your family and I will say my fret prayer in a long time and include your family in them. Thank you for sharing your inspiring story with us. Danny Jezek.

Be sure to read their “Letter to Congress”- the link is under Latest News in the upper left hand corner of the site. Beautiful. I’m a published author working on an anthology by parents who have lost a child to give support, comfort, compassion to those who are losing a child to a terminal illness or who have recently lost one. Your story with Layla would be a remarkable addition to our book. So often people say, I know how you must feel. As a parent who lost a baby, I can say, No, you don’t. You can’t ever know.

This book is for those who need the comfort and the hope that comes after losing a child from those who do know exactly what they’re going through. Of course, each child and parent has a story, whether it’s of anger, sadness, a spiritual sign, laughter, a special way of remembering that will help others.

Can you please email me so I can discuss this with you? So far, we have about two dozen contributing authors for From a Lullabye to Goodbye. My email is PcMcKenna6@aol.com My hope is that every hospital, hospice, etc., in the country will have this book on hand to give to parents when they lose their most precious babies. When I lost mine, the hospital gave me a book about miscarriages and said maybe there is something in there that can help you. We’re sorry we don’t have anything relevant to losing a baby.

It’s an untouched subject because so few want to talk about it, they’re uncomfortable. But those who lose a child need the love, advice and comfort of those who truly know how they feel. I’m certain of that. I did.

    My email is: PcMcKenna6@aol.com

Psalms 46:1-5 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

These verses are so comforting. Continuing to pray!
Revelation 21:1-4 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

I heard of Layla on the Dan Spitz website. I play in an Anthrax cover band and am living with brain cancer. Just reading of the bravert of this little 2 year old just gives me more courage than I ever thought possible. Thank you for sharing her life with us.

Remembering your sweet Layla. She lives on through so many.
    Happy early Mother’s Day.

    Remembering You On Mother’s Day
    No little hugs or kisses
to wake me up on this morn.
No special card or roses sent my way.
    Bittersweet feelings, at least a thousand tears;
Quietly, I celebrated you this day.

I am not like the others,
Though I still wear the name.
I cannot hold you in my arms,
But I love you just the same.

I knelt beside your resting place,
Though I knew you were not there.
I prayed to God in Heaven:
A peace I found in knowing,
sweet child, you’re in His care.

To see a mother with her baby-
    How my heart breaks in two;
But never would I trade this pain
If it meant there had no been you.

At times I feel I cannot go on-
    Living this life without you.
Yet hidden behind my deepest grief
    There is joy unexpainably true.

For my daughter, you will always be a blessing from above.
Your brief existence has bestowed on me a name I cherish dear.
And although this day is not what I imagined it to be,
I will treasure it because of you-

You’re on my mind today and I just wanted to wish you a happy mother’s day. I’ve been missing my grandmother terribly as she finally succumbed to her cancer battle on March 20th and this is my first mother’s day in almost 28 years without her. As I sat crying tonight, I remembered you and remembered Layla Grace and once I visited the page again, I shed a tear as I learned of her passing. I pray that you find peace and comfort and I hope that they’re keeping each other company in heaven; my Grandma has always loved baby girls so she’ll be in GREAT hands.
