Create Your Own Event

Holding an event in your community is a great way to spread awareness. From community garage sales to school-wide bake sales, there are lots of ways to get your friends and family involved. Follow the simple steps below to get started with your very own fundraiser.

Getting Started

Decide what type of event you want to hold – make a list of ideas. Do you want to have a large community event, or a small personal one? Think about what kind of resources are going to be available to you, how much time you will have to dedicate to planning and organizing and how this will effect your other daily obligations.

Select A Venue

Once you have a good idea of how large your attendance will be you need to figure out where you will have your event. For example, will you be having a bake sale in your front yard, or a family fun day at a local park? Can your church hold your crowd, or do you need to look into a community hall? Make sure to book your venue according to your highest guess of how many people will attend; you don’t want to have to turn people away. Look into obtaining permission from the appropriate people and inquire about any permits you may need to get, such as parking or selling food and alcohol.

Choose a Date and Time

Take into consideration any holidays that may be approaching, other events you may have to compete with, volunteer schedules, and your personal schedule. If you’re holding a family friendly event you won’t want to schedule it when children are in school. Time of year will also play a part in deciding on your date if you are using an outdoor venue.
